Just two riders for today's chilly Cyclopath ride! The temperatures registered a brisk 32 degrees, with a wind chill of 21. As I pulled into Salem Center to meet Ducky at 8 a.m., I knew when I caught a glimpse of her bike that we wouldn't be traveling far -- she was riding her "around town" bike. I was a little disappointed, as I had made the effort to dress for the chilly ride, heading out of Swampscott at 7:40 expecting a longer trek.... but, I just rolled with it. We ventured off to the Coffee Time Bake Shop on nearby Bridge Street, literally just a mile down the road. I had a large coffee and Ducky and I chatted for nearly an hour. It was really terrific and I enjoyed our conversation immensely -- brushing off my earlier disappointment at the short distance.
After breakfast, we said our farewells as Ducky headed home to Beverly and I continued on out to Winter Island and Salem Willows, Pickering Wharf, Pioneer Park, and the perimeter roads of Marblehead down West Shore Drive and Beacon Street on my way home. I surprisingly ticked off 21 miles looping down all of the back roads of Salem and Marblehead. It was a cold one.
